Last week Startup Tucson was honored to accept an invitation to speak at the Sonora-Arizona Commission summit in Hermosillo Mexico. Hosting hundreds of industry leaders, academics, dignitaries, numerous mayors, and both the governors of Sonora and Arizona– the theme of the conference was Cross Border Collaboration in Innovation.
Startup Tucson and Startup Unidos co-presented at the Economic Development committee describing how TENWEST Festival applied the Collective Impact Model this year to bring numerous stakeholders to the table as a way to strengthen our region. Our focus at the conference was the TENWEST Festival event Techstars Startup Weekend: LatinX in Tech. This event represented the festival’s first cross-border collaboration pilot between the entrepreneurial communities in Sonora and Arizona — one we hope will only grow stronger in 2019.
We were delighted at the strong response and overall it was an exhilarating and refreshing experience to participate in this event with Mexican counterparts, demonstrating how collaboration and unity can powerfully transform communities.
